In 2002, I was a new agent in an aggressively competitive business. So I knew it was important for me to develop my own personal strategy for my real estate practice.

Laying out a mission statement was the very first thing I did, in developing my personal strategy; which is: "I will gladly lend a hand to anyone who needs it, whether or not I get paid, and help them as best I can, by utilizing the know-how and insights that I've gained through my training and experience in the real estate business." Just to be clear: I'm real serious about the part that says I want help folks "whether or not I get paid." Now, of course I know this is a business—and I'm not saying that I don't want or need to make a living! But, sometimes, people just need a little good advice (or maybe a nudge in the right direction, when they need to make a decision)... The next part of my personal strategy for real estate has been to specialize as a Buyer's Agent—with an emphasis on HUD-Owned and other foreclosed properties. This is a very specialized area in the practice of real estate sales and I've been focusing on it since way back in the boom years of the market.

The final element in my personal strategy is, basically, about how I view the fundamental job of a Realtor®. In a nutshell: I know that to keep succeeding in real estate, I have to prove myself, over and over again, on each and every new job, and with each and every new client. The bottom line for me as a Realtor® is that I am responsible for helping folks with something that is likely to be the biggest purchase or sale of their lives. I'm good at what I do and I take it all very seriously.
